To make your Web site visible to the world, it has to be hosted on a Web server. There are 2 things you will need to do, one is choosing and purchasing a domain name, and the other is choosing a web hosting service and paying for server space. There are some hosting services that will give you free hosting if you purchase your domain name through them.
Look for a deal that suits what you need. If you don't have a complex site, with no database needs (MySql) just look for the most basic option. You can always upgrade as your needs increase.
You will get access to a web-based control panel that will allow you to upload your files (ftp) to your site.
Here are some common hosting services:

Slideshows-Media Viewers
I have been spending some time this morning playing around with some of the media viewers that allow you to display images, videos or flash content on your website. This slideshow of 350px x 350px images was constructed using Lightbox 2.

Welcome To The Class!!
Day One is filled with introductions and getting ideas about what you want to focus on this week. Will you be creating portfolio websites? Want to redesign or update an existing website? New to making websites and figuring out what can work for you? Hopefully we can come up with solutions or ideas or at least pointers in the right direction to everyone's questions.
We will be working in Dreamweaver this week and "getting under the hood" and looking at the HTML code. It is my goal that students will be able to come away from this workshop with a greater understanding of how web pages work, and the various and assorted technologies that are associated with web site development.
This class is only as rich as the questions and ideas that each of you bring to it. If you have links or websites that you wish to share with the rest of the class, I can use this blog to share them. I will also be providing links to tutorials, demos, how-to's so that you can have as many varied resources to learn from through this week and after the class.
This afternoon we will begin with the very basics of creating a web site, file and folder structure, and the creation of our first HTML page in Dreamweaver.
